Why Make a Move about James Clerk Maxwell?

It’s not enough to say that this man’s contributions were extraordinary.

It’s not enough to say that more people should know about James Clerk Maxwell.

My reason for wanting to make this movie is almost entirely selfish.

I know that I can make a movie about him that matters.

The National Library of Medicine has an article about The Physics-Educated Workforce. They’ve found that, “Physics is a comparatively small field. During academic year 2000-2001, nearly 4,100 physics bachelors were awarded. That same year, over 1.2 million bachelor’s degrees were awarded across all fields in the United States. Thus, out of every 1,000 bachelor’s degrees awarded each year, only about 3.4 are in physics.”

This is insane! Only 0.34% of people with a bachelor’s degree have one in physics. I’m part of this minority. Of the people in this minority, how many make movies? It’s not a lot!

So, not very many people who know about the significance of James Clerk Maxwell’s work would ever think about making a movie about him. And of those, not very many know enough about making movies to make it happen.

I have many heroes.

But we already have movies about Richard Feynman and Victor Hugo’s characters.

It’s time for someone to make a movie about James Clerk Maxwell!

And that someone is me.
